so a Legendary Engraver will always be preferred to take on multiple engraver jobs pending even if your fortress is set to allow everyone to perform engrave jobs.Īnd if no one is specialised at a task, it will pool everyone to do it providing they aren't more suitable to any other active jobs until specific dwarfs become slightly more skilled then their peers at it, then it will start to allocate them to future jobs of the same type more, eventually ending up with natural specialisation. This newer version of Dwarf Fortress actually makes some significant changes to how job allocation behaves compared to the older versions of classic, and the old requirement to micromanage focus roles for each dwarf has kind of become obsolete as now the game factors in a dwarfs suitability for the job when deciding who does what even if the number of dwarfs to pick from is your entire population. what is it going to brew? Brew a empty barrel into a drink to store in more barrels that aren't there?Īs for the not hauling your barrels, sounds potentially like there are just more higher priority jobs to do, it happens especially if you mess around a lot with job allocations and role weights unnecessarily. So if you set a Still workshop to link to a stockpile that only holds 1 empty barrel and say "Brew drinks". if a workshop is set to link with a specific stockpile it won't take anything it needs from any other stockpile, right? ![]() Just to make sure you know this when messing with stockpile links. "Barrel automation" as you put it is literally a 1 step procedure.Īll you really need is a standing order to make barrels when number of empty barrels < xx based on volume you want, set the standing order to the number of barrels you want to have in excess of your minimum target and then just walk away and leave the game to do its thing. Sounds like you've been messing around with a whole load of stuff that really there is no need to as it's not a complicated thing that requires any kind of detected barrel stockpile or anything like that. To add to the frustration, my "main storage" area is full of empty barrels, even though I've actually disallowed "barrels" in that!!Īny tips? Is this a bug or have I set something up wrong? I currently have the settings to only allow "large pots/food-storage" and "barrels". If I disallow "barrels" under "furniture", does that mean "only empty barrels", or does it mean, "any barrels at all, full or empty"? My dwarfs just don't seem to want to haul empty barrels to their "empty barrel" stockpiles I have set-up (they won't haul anything there). #2 - I have problems with empty barrels, period. However, I get a warning that no brewing can happen because "still needs an empty food container in a linked stockpile". The still is set to "take items" from that "empty barrels" stockpile. ![]() I can click on it and see that it has 1 empty barrel in it presently. It's set to only accept "barrels" and "large pots/food-storage". #1 - I have a still setup, directly adjacent to the still is a 3x1 stockpile named "empty barrels". Hey guys, I'm having a hard time automating my barrels.
